Grey: A Rat's Escape

Grey has had enough. After years of living uninvited in a human's house, she's ready to find somewhere she truly belongs.

Guide Grey through 3 levels — from the house she's leaving behind, through the dangerous city streets, all the way to the peaceful forest she's always dreamed of. Defeat enemies, survive the journey, and help Grey find her forever home.

Made as my first Unity game — a solo project from start to finish.

Modification 1: New player and enemy characters (Aesthetic)

The original player and enemy sprites were replaced with entirely new characters. Grey the rat was created as the player character, complete with custom pixel art. Enemy sprites were also replaced to fit the game's world and narrative.

Modification 2: Three connected levels with a sequential story (Design)

Three unique levels were designed from scratch, each with a distinct environment and increasing difficulty: a house interior, city streets, and a forest. The levels are connected through a narrative — Grey the rat escaping her old home to find a place of her own. Custom cutscene illustrations and beginner screens with original pixel art were created for each level to tell the story between gameplay sections.

Modification 3: Overhauled out-of-game menus (Design + Aesthetic)

The out-of-game menus were significantly redesigned. Each level received a custom beginner screen with an original hand-drawn pixel art illustration and level-specific instructions. A custom final title screen was created to conclude the story, featuring original artwork drawn entirely with a mouse. A cutscene-style intro screen was also added to set up the narrative before gameplay begins.
